Children and Youth Ministries News

August 2016 Children and Youth News

Dear Friends,

While I have truly enjoyed my time at home with Jane, I am so glad to be back with my church family every Sunday with my new addition along for the ride. I am so thankful for all of the volunteers who helped out in our children and youth departments while I was recovering and adjusting to motherhood. I can't even begin to attempt to name you all as I am certain I would miss someone simply because there were so many joyful helpers who stepped up.

As some of you may be aware, I am participating in a conference wide children's ministry team. The Conference is sponsoring a one day conference entitled "Connecting Children with Christ" on September 10th from 8:45 - 3:15 at West Lawn United Methodist and I have been working on this program along with a wonderful team from around the Susquehanna Valley. I would like to have at least five representatives from our church attend. Lunch is provided that day. Please see me by September 1st if you would like to attend as I would like to register all  of our church members together.

A small contingent of our youth and leaders enjoyed a trip to Gifford Pinchot State Park for a day of boating and swimming in July. While our group was small, a great time was had by every one who attended. We may return for a fall day trip if the weather allows.

Our first night of youth group and Junior Knights will be September 7th. We will be needing some extra helping hands  on September 14th and 21st (or any other day after the 14th) to distribute flyers for the food bank collection that we do during the Farm Show parade. Because the parade is slightly earlier this year we have a little less time than normal to complete our route on Wednesday evenings. If your small group or family is willing to help, we would greatly appreciate it.

It's not too soon to think about Christmas! Community Christmas that is! Last year, we served nearly 100 families and more than 150 children at our Christmas gift giveaway. We are always and still in need of donations of quality new or gently used items. These items can be placed in the room just outside of the youth center that features the orange sign on the door. Community Christmas is December 3rd from 2-5pm this year. I will need approximately 20 volunteers to make this event a rousing success. While I'm not asking for people to sign up just yet, I want it to be on your radar. Christmas (and cooler temperatures) will be here before we know it!

Thank you for your continued prayers and support as we continue our important mission of serving the children and youth of our community.
